I’ve been playing and singing music for a long time and thought it might be fun and helpful to share some experiences and lessons I learned having started, Cliftones, a band with my brothers and dad. For 6 years we played several hundred concerts, performing in Texas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, and won an award for one of our songs on an independent record label. Along the way we were able to meet a lot of musicians who’d inspired us spiritually and musically. We even got to produce 2 albums in professional studios and collaborate on a couple songs with one of our musical heros, Shane Everett. We never paid out of our pocket for anything on our tours and we gave money to several charitable organizations along the way. Although we didn’t make enough to become full-time “rock stars” in my mind we were a great success.
